Olympic Triathlon Overview

Triathlon as the name suggests is an endurance sport event containing multiple sports involving the achievement of three nonstop and sequential events as swimming, cycling and running back to back without a rest.
Swimming is movement through water using one's limbs, and usually without artificial apparatus. Swimming is an activity that can be both useful and recreational. Its primary uses are bathing, cooling, fishing, recreation, exercise, and sport. Cycling is the use of bicycles for transport, recreation, or for sport. Running is a means of worldly locomotion allowing humans and other animals to move rapidly on foot.
The people who participate in Triathlons are known as Triathletes. Participant competes for fastest overall course finishing point, including timed sections between the individual swim, bike, and run components. When participants change position from one sport to another sport as from the swim section to the run section is known as Transition. The time spent in T1 and T2 is included in the overall time of the race .Transition areas are positioned both between the swim and bike segments (T1), and between the bike and run segments (T2) and are where the switches from swimming to cycling and cycling to running occur. Transitions areas can be different in size depending on the number of participants expected for the race.
The first swim/bike/run triathlons were held in San Diego's Mission Bay on 25 September 1974 in which athletes completed 500m swimming distance.  8km cycling distance and a 10km running distance and it was planned by members of the San Diego Track Club. The first Iron-man distance triathlon was held in Hawaii in 1978. Now days there are four common triathlon distances as Sprint, Olympic, Half Iron-man and Iron-man.
